Man Who Resisted Arrest Stunned with Taser

The 27-year-old Milwaukee man refused to show a police officer identification or tell them his name and then resisted the officer.

Greenfield police officers had to stun a man who resisted arrest at the Greenfield Place strip mall April 1.

According to court documents, employees of Tuesday Morning, 4930 S. 74th St., noticed a woman with an infant wandering around the store and crying for approximately one hour April 1. When police made contact with the woman at approximately 7:30 p.m., she said her boyfriend, Jose Manuel Rivero, a 27-year-old Milwaukee man, had left her there.

While an officer spoke with the woman, Rivero returned and banged on the outside window, trying to get his girlfriend’s attention and have her meet him outside.

When police approached Rivero and asked for identification, Rivero told police he had none. He also refused to tell the officer his name, according to the complaint.

Rivero then put his hands in his pockets and refused to remove them when told to do so by police. When an officer tried to search Rivero for identification, Rivero resisted and eventually grabbed the officer’s shirt his radio microphone and would not let go.

The officer attempted to stun the man in the back with his Taser, according to the Greenfield Police Department report, but a thick, leather coat appeared to lesson its effectiveness. A drive stun – when a person is jabbed with the Taser – to the back of Rivero’s leg and the assistance of a second officer helped Greenfield police get Rivero under control.

Rivera was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on April 4, with misdemeanor obstructing/resisting an officer. He faces a maximum of 9 months of imprisonment and $10,000 in fines.
