No Injuries In Lunchtime Accident on 76th Street

A multi-car accident at the intersection of 76th Street and Layton Avenue snarled lunchtime traffic Wednesday.

Greenfield Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Hohnsee said one car involved in the accident struck a traffic signal pole, causing it to fall over onto the car. The was still energized, even after it fell, until finally being turned off by Milwaukee County crews.

Hohnsee said just one person was evaluated for injuries and released.

"It probably looked worse than it was, with a lot of bystanders and that being such a congested intersection," Hohnsee said.

One of the left-turn lanes on 76th Street was blocked for some time. Cleanup of the accident scene was prolonged as county workers waited for a truck to come and remove the downed pole.
