Police Blotter: What is Coning?

This and other reports from the Greenfield Police Department from Aug. 1- Aug. 7.

You've probably heard of mooning, egging and ding-dong ditching.

But coning?

A group of teenagers continue to purchase ice cream cones at , 4550 S. 108th St., and "cone" the restaurant by throwing the purchased ice cream treats at customers, employees and the building.

A "coning" occurred at 9:45 p.m. Aug. 2. when a teenager threw a cone at the building before fleeing in a vehicle.  

The following are more incidents reported in the department's police log from Aug. 1-7:

  • A 26-year-old man was taken into custody for allegedly driving drunk in the 8400 block of West Layton Avenue at 2 a.m. Aug. 1.
  • A planter was taken from a residence in the 6000 block of South 31st Street. The theft was reported at 9 a.m. Aug. 1. 
  • A planter was taken from a residence in the 3200 block of West Alvina Avenue. The theft was reported at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 1. 
  • A 19-year-old woman was taken into custody for allegedly driving drunk in the 4200 block of South 43rd Street at 1:30 a.m. Aug. 2.
  • A solar light and an umbrella stand were stolen from a backyard in the 10400 block of West Howard Avenue. The theft was reported during the morning of Aug. 2. 
  • A 50-year-old man was taken into custody for allegedly stealing from , 4610 S. 76th St., at 12:45 p.m. Aug. 2. 
  • A rented Honda Civic was stolen in the 5400 block of South 43rd Street. The theft was reported at 7 p.m. Aug. 2. 
  • Two bicycles were stolen in the 4500 block of West Morgan Avenue between 9 p.m. Aug. 2, and 8 a.m. Aug. 3. The two bikes were chained up, but the chains were cut, according to the owner.
  • A juvenile boy was punched in the face near , 5005 S. 74th St., by an unknown assailant at 6 p.m. Aug. 3. 
  • A 22-year-old woman was taken into custody for allegedly threatening her ex-boyfriend with a baseball bat and stealing his car in the 5900 block of West Cold Spring Road during the early morning of Aug 4. The ex-boyfriend earlier signed a bond for an outstanding warrant after he called police about the incident. 
  • A sleeping bag and a cross bow, along with other items were stolen from a storage locker in the 10100 block of West Cold Spring Road. The theft was reported at noon Aug. 4. 
  • A construction valve was stolen from a site in the 770 block of West Layton Avenue. The theft was reported at 2:45 p.m. Aug. 4. 
  • A 21-year-old man was taken into custody for allegedly having marijuana and drug paraphernalia on him during a traffic stop in the 4500 block of South 108th Street at 11:15 p.m. Aug. 4. 
  • A 46-year-old man was taken into custody for allegedly driving drunk in the 3400 block of West Loomis Avenue at 2:15 a.m. Aug. 5. 
  • A 23-year-old man was cited for retail theft after allegedly stealing from , 4200 S. 76th St., at 5:45 p.m. Aug. 5. 
  • A cab driver reported being stiffed on a fare in the 5100 block of West Layton Avenue at 3:30 a.m. Aug. 6. The free rider was last seen running southbound through Konkel Park, according to the police report. 
  • A 32-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly forging a script for oxycotin at , 4601 S. 76th St., at 4 p.m. Aug. 6. As the man was waiting for the prescription to be filled, store personnel held the man for retail theft. 
  • A 22-year-old man was taken into custody after allegedly driving drunk in the 3900 block of South 27th Street at 4 a.m. Aug. 7. Police also found cocaine on the man, according to the report. 
  • Graffiti was reported found in Kulwicki Park, 10701 W. Cold Spring Rd. The vandalism is believed to have occurred during the evening of Aug. 6 or early morning of Aug. 7.
  • Two juveniles and a 17-year-old man were taken into custody after allegedly stealing four or five bicycles from a garage in the 5000 block of South 68th Street at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 7.
