'Sober' Woman Arrested During Pick-Up of Boyfriend

A 44-year-old Mukwonago man had to post bail for his 32-year-old girlfriend who came to pick him up because he had been drinking and stopped by police.

When police suggest you call a sober adult to come pick you up from a compromising situation, the key word is sober.

That’s the lesson a 44-year-old Mukwonago man and his 32-year-old Hales Corners girlfriend learned last week.

According to the report, police pulled over the man for driving with a burnt-out taillight and driving erratically in the 5900 block of South 27th Street just after midnight Aug. 11.

Though the 44-year-old admitted to drinking a few beers at State Fair earlier in the evening, he passed officers’ field sobriety tests. Police, however, did not want him to drive home and asked that he call a sober adult to pick him up.

He called his 32-year-old girlfriend, a Hales Corners resident, who arrived a short time later. Officers immediately observed the woman’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy, her speech was slurred and there was a moderate odor of alcohol on her breath.

She told police she had not been drinking, but while she was allegedly failing field sobriety tests, she later admitted to having two beers. She was arrested for alleged drunken driving; if convicted, it would be her second offense. She was convicted for operating while intoxicated in July 2010.

What’s more, the boyfriend had to post bail for his girlfriend, and the two shared a cab ride home.
