Unpatriotic Theft Reported on Fourth of July

Approximately 135 small American flags were taken from the condominium complex in the 3300 block of Canterbury Road sometime before 10:45 a.m. July 4.

That and the following incidents were reported in the Greenfield Police Department log for the week of July 1-7:

  • A boy was arrested for disorderly conduct and curfew violation after a neighbor said he put dog feces on her car and driveway in the 3400 block of South 46th Street at 2 a.m. July 1.
  • A woman told police her purse containing $1,400 and two prescriptions were taken from her unlocked vehicle while it was parked at Half Price Books, 5032 S. 74th Street on July 1.
  • One teenager was arrested for battery and two others cited for disorderly conduct after fighting at Greenfield High School, 4800 S. 60th St., July 2. One of the teenagers was taken to Children’s Hospital and treated for a head wound.
  • A man described as a known shoplifter stole 13 cases of Red Bull from Pick ‘n Save, 4279 S. 76th St., July 3.
  • A gun was reported stolen from a locked car in the 3700 block of West Carpenter Avenue sometime before 9:10 a.m. July 4. The gun was a 9mm pistol; three 15-round magazines were also stolen.
  • Two men were advised on the proper etiquette for a pie-eating contest during the Fourth of July celebration at Konkel Park after they got into an altercation just after 4:30 p.m. One of the men was advised not to return to the park that evening.
  • A woman told police her van was broken into and her purse with credit cards were taken while it was parked at Organ Piper Pizza, 4353 S. 108th St., between 4:30-5:40 p.m. July 5. Just down the road, two different iPod devices were stolen from two separate cars that were broken into while in the parking lot of Budget Cinema South, 4475 S. 108th, later that night.
