What's a Quack Digger? And Why Would Someone Steal It?

A woman in the 4600 block of South 92nd Street reported hers was stolen over Labor Day weekend.

An unusual piece of farm equipment with an even more unusual name was reported stolen form a Greenfield residence last week.

According to the , a woman reported someone drove onto her property and removed a quack digger from her yard in the 4600 block of South 92nd Street sometime between midnight Aug. 31 and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 3

A quack digger is a steel piece of farm equipment often referred to as a farm cultivator and often pulled behind a tractor or another farm vehicle.

The woman told police the quack digger was an antique and worth around $500. The piece of machinery is entirely made of steel, which would make it a valuable target for a scrap theft, according to police.

The woman told police a birdbath and a lawn mower were also stolen from her property about a month ago. All of the items were stored in the backyard of the residence.
