Woman Caught with Drugs While Shoplifting

Emily K. Smith told police suboxone in her purse was hers, and then claimed it belongs to a friend.

A 28-year-old Greenfield woman is facing charges after she was allegedly caught with drugs in her purse while she was shoplifting from an area store.

Emily K. Smith was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on Friday with one count of possession of a controlled substance. If convicted, she faces up to 30 days in jail and $500 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Friday, Greenfield police officers were called to after Smith was caught trying to steal a purse. Officers took her into custody and transported her back to the where they searched her purse and found a suboxone film.

She said the film was hers, but officers checked and discovered Smith didn’t have a prescription for the drugs. She then changed her story and said the drugs belonged to her friend.

She’s currently being held in Milwaukee County Jail on a $250 signature bond.
