City Tells Chief, 'Thanks for Your Dedication'

City officials tell Frank Springob thanks and good luck, and you can too.

Mayor Michael Neitzke joked at this month's Common Council meeting that he was 2 years old when Police Chief Frank Springob joined the Greenfield Police Department.

But after a few laughs, Neitzke heaped praise on the outgoing police chief, whose last day with the department is today after 46 1/2 years.

"There isn’t anyone I’ve met that when I mention his name, they say, 'He’s a really great guy,'" said Neitzke, whose comment was followed by a standing ovation for Springob.

The chief has always been not only dedicated to his department, which is one of the best run, most cost-effective in the state, but also to the city itself.

It will be impossible to replicate someone who has an encyclopedic knowledge of law enforcement, interactions, things that have been tried, history -- and so much more.

He's always demonstrated the highest integrity. I'm honored to have worked with him, and to call him a friend.  Knowing him, I'm certain he'll have continued interest and involvement with the city. We're all very lucky to have him as long as we have.

Alderwoman Linda Lubotsky:

Chief, I thank you for your tireless commitment and devotion to making a difference in our city. You have taught me so much as a ambitious new elect in 2008 with my hours of questions and wanting to know how a Police Deptartment operates, budgets, etc. You are always available and patient in answering any inquires with residents. Without you and the department's hard work, we wouldn't have a sexual offender ordinance that I came to you with for help in writing. Thanks to you, our city is a safer and more of a wonderful place to live. I will miss our talks and coffee! I leave you with a poem:

As one chapter ends
Another begins for you
Enjoy all the things
You've been looking forward to

A very happy retirement to you.

Alderwoman Shirley Saryan:

What can we say to a Greenfield institution, a pillar of our community? Thank you for 46 ½ years of dedicated and exemplary service to the City of Greenfield. Your unparalleled integrity earned our respect and your personal touch made us feel at home. We will miss your leadership, but look forward to your future involvement with Greenfield as a retired citizen. Congratulations and best wishes, Chief Springob!

Alderwoman Pam Akers:

Chief, thank you for all your years of service to the city and residents of Greenfield! Wishing you much happiness as you begin this new phase of your life!

Steve Rogers, the city's police and fire chaplain and pastor at Elim Tabernacle:

Chief has been a great part of the fabric of our great city. His knowldge of the law is awe-inspiring. His love for the history of the City of Greenfield has been a treasure of information. He has been a great friend. Myself, my family and our church have all grown to respect and appreciate him very much.
