City Wants Expert Help With Leaky Roof Issues

In an effort to cover all its bases while attempting to recover money spent on a faulty roof at the , the Greenfield Common Council unanimously agreed Tuesday to request the help of experts.

At the suggestion of Director of Neighborhood Services Richard Sokol, the city will seek the consultation of the law firm Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. of Milwaukee.

The roof has been leaking since the building was erected in 2007, according to a story by The Business Journal late last year.

According to Sokol, the city has received offers from two insurance companies to settle the city’s claims in regards to the faulty roof, but is not ready to proceed.

“We think we should get some outside counsel which has experience dealing with construction companies to make sure that we maximize our recovery with all these different issues,” Sokol said.

Sokol said the city has received bids to repair or replace the roof but would not recommend that those are accepted at this time. Sokol questioned the capability of the two lowest bidders to perform the contract and said the other bids were too high.

In other action Tuesday, the Common Council unanimously approved a request from to hold a swimsuit contest with entertainment provided by a DJ in the back of the parking lot from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, and approved Hooters’ request to hold a weekly bike night every Sunday from 1-9 p.m. from June through October.

Also, the council confirmed Mayor Michael Neitzke’s appointment of John Ganser to the Board of Review.
