Congressman Sensenbrenner's Greenfield Visit Low-Key

With a bit of humor and plenty of conviction, U.S. Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner Jr. tackled a little of everything Sunday, from the dire state of the U.S. Postal Service to gun control to the Great Lakes.

And while some questions were more confrontational than others — with one woman storming out mid-answer — Sensenbrenner's town hall meeting Sunday in Greenfield was mostly cordial.

Sensenbrenner, flanked by state Sen. Mary Lazich and state Reps. Mike Kuglitsch and Jeff Stone, fielded about 20 questions from the more than 65 constituents who packed the community room of the Greenfield Public Library.

It was Sensenbrenner’s first official visit to Greenfield since the city fell under his representation thanks to redistricting that went into effect Jan. 1.

It was also one of five town hall-style meetings Sensenbrenner held over the weekend and Monday.

"I'm glad to be here, and I can tell you I'm going to be around pretty often, whether it's holding town meetings like this or going to various types of civic events here in the City of Greenfield," Sensebrenner said.

Sensenbrenner’s Greenfield appearance was low-key compared to the most recent visits of Congressman Paul Ryan, who represented the city prior to redistricting. Back in April 2011, the former running mate of Mitt Romney faced a disruptive crowd during a listening session at Whitnall High School.

Five months later, anti- and pro-Ryan demonstrators squared off on Oklahoma Avenue outside of Klemmer’s Banquet Hall when Ryan was invited to speak by the Whitnall Rotary Club.
