Greenfield Alderpersons Sworn In For Another Term

Linda Lubotsky and Thomas Pietrowski were both victorious in the April 5 election.

When lifelong Greenfield resident Thomas Pietrowski was first elected to the city’s Common Council, he believed there should be term limits for alderpersons.

After being elected for a fourth three-year council term, Pietrowski is now on the fence about term limits, unsure if the city needs them or not.

But he is sure of one thing.

“We really need people that get out there and represent us,” he said before Tuesday’s Common Council meeting when he and Alderperson Linda Lubotsky were sworn in after being re-elected April 5.

“This election cycle was really telling for me,” Pietrowski added. “I made a lot of decisions that went the way I had hoped they would and that reaffirms my ability to serve the community. … We do face some challenging times and I hope we all work together.”

while Lubotsky ran unopposed.

“I’d like to thank my constituents for their faith and confidence in again giving me the opportunity and honor to serve them,” said Lubotsky, who began her second term. “I especially look forward to the many challenges our great city of Greenfield faces.”

Dozens attended the oath of office ceremony in the City Hall council chambers, including many department heads, school officials, State Representative Jeff Stone, District Supervisor Mark Borkowski and others.

“This is a great night for Tom and Linda, who both have dedicated many nights and many weekends and many phone calls in the middle of the night, people calling about this and that,” Greenfield Mayor Michael Neitzke said.

Later at the regularly scheduled Common Council meeting, Alderperson Karl Kastner earned another one-year term as council president by a 3-2 vote; Lubotsky and Pietrowski, who nominated himself for the position, voted against Kastner.

Other council appointments included Kastner, Pietrowski and Alderperson Shirley Saryan to the Finance and Human Resources Committee; Lubotsky, Pietrowski and Alderperson Pam Akers to the Legislative Committee; Saryan to the Park & Recreation Board; Kastner to the Plan Commission and Pietrowski to the Public Safety Committee.

Neitzke appointed Akers to the Board of Health, Saryan to the Public Library Board, Akers, Saryan and Lubotsky to the Board of Public Works, and Pietrowski to the Community Development Authority.

The council reappointed Richard Mrochinski to the Board of Public Works and confirmed the following mayoral appointments:

  • Robert Sherwood, David Shore and Veronica Wallace-Kraemer to the Civil Service Commission
  • Dennis Clark to the Police and Fire Commission
  • Jeffrey Hagfors and Michael Wendt to the Tree Commission
