Greenfield Approves Resolution to Support High-Proof Alcohol Ban

The resolution was supported unanimously by the Common Council members.

Just months after a after drinking a punch that included a high-proof alcohol, the Greenfield Common Council voted unanimously in favor of a resolution requesting the state legislature to ban the sale of grain alcohol above 160 proof at Tuesday's meeting at .

Here is the approved resolution:

"The Common Council of the City of Greenfield do ordain as follows:

"Whereas, the City of Greenfield Common Council has determined that the sale of high grain alcohol above 160 proof is a threat to the public health, safety and welfare of the community, and

"Whereas, the ingestion of alcohol, i.e. grain alcohol above 160 proof, has already caused the deaths of many throughout the United States and , and

"Whereas, the State Legislature has the power and authority to regulate the sale of intoxicating liquors and fermented malt beverages, and

"Now therefore be it resolved, that the City of Greenfield Common Council requests of its state representative and the legislature to enact a law prohibiting and banning the sale of high grain alcohol in this State that is 160 proof and higher."
