Chick-fil-A Coming to Southridge Mall Area Later Than Expected

The restaurant was initially believed to be headed to Greendale this summer. But that's not the case, according to the company's public relations department.

It appears Chick-fil-A, the national chicken restaurant chain, is still coming to 76th Street.

Just not as soon as previously expected.

Village of Greendale officials approved the building of a 4,779-square-foot Chick-fil-A for one of the Walmart outlots across the street from Southridge Mall back in October 2012. At that time, Chick-fil-A representatives indicated the 109-seat restaurant with a drive-thru, outdoor seating and indoor playground would be built by July or August.

Brenda Morrow, with the Atlanta-based restaurant’s public relations department, however, said no Greendale restaurant plans are in the works this year.

“Too soon to communicate anything other than we plan to come to Greendale in 2014,” Morrow said in an email to Patch.

The confusion started when a Greendale Patch user inquired through the Chick-fil-A website about the opening date for the Greendale restaurant.

The response he received indicated no such opening was planned.

“At this time, our records do not indicate development plans for a Chick-fil-A Restaurant in your requested area. Although we would like to accommodate all location requests, our Chick-fil-A Restaurant new opening locations are determined through market research and analysis. Currently, our focus for expansion includes Southern California and the Chicago market. We hope to add additional markets for expansion in the next five years. Please continue to visit www.chick-fil-a.com and select the "Restaurant Opening" tab at the top of the screen to see where new Chick-fil-A's are opening. We appreciate your input.”

The website lists 25 new locations opening across the country between April 25 and June 20, none of which are in Wisconsin.

Greendale Village Manager Todd Michaels could not immediately be reached for comment.

The addition of Chick-fil-A is one of many new or proposed businesses and restaurants to pop up on 76th Street in the last few years.
