Second-hand Jewelry Store Likely to be Shot Down

Guillermo Guerrero, owner of Corona Jewelry, wants to open a jewelry retail sales and repair business at 6205 S. 27th St., the small building at the northeast corner of the Greenfield Emporium Square shopping center.

Guerrero also hopes to use the shop for second-hand buying and selling of jewelry and gold.

But his plan isn't likely to move forward.

Formerly known as the Jewelry Repair Shop, the building has been vacant for several months because the previous owner had his application for a secondhand jewelry dealer license denied after officials found false and misleading information on the application.

The building was initially a drive-thru coffee shop.

According to Plan Commission notes, the city’s police department opposes the expansion of any additional second-hand jewelry uses, and city “staff believes that this kiosk-type building has out-lived its usefulness given the truly limited types of uses which could successfully work from such a small location.”

The Plan Commission is expected to recommend denial of Guerrero’s request at its 6:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall.
