U.S. Cellular Leaving Greenfield for Greendale

A new store will be built on one of two Walmart outlots, just down the street from the store's current location at the corner of 76th Street and Edgerton.

Consumers will be able do their grocery shopping, grab a bite to eat and even change their cell phone plan without breaking much of a sweat this summer.

Extreme heat, aside, of course.

The Greendale Village Board unanimously approved the building of a 4,500-square foot U.S. Cellular retail store in one of two outlots in front of Walmart, which opens next week.

The village previously approved the building of a Chick-fil-A restaurant on the other outlot.

“The development went as everybody hoped,” Greendale Village Manager Todd Michaels said.

Michaels said U. S. Cellular representatives indicated the new store will be completed by July 15.

Greendale’s gain is a loss for neighboring Greenfield. The U.S. Cellular store will be moving from 5096 S. 76th Street, or the corner of 76th Street and Edgerton, to the new location, according to a store employee.

The new store will be larger than the current one and is expected to have much improved parking.
