Football, Or Soccer as You Like to Call It

The Greenfield soccer team is off to a slow start under new coach Rob Blake, but Blake is excited about what the future of the program holds.

Football (soccer) is the primary sport of almost every country in the world except America. I'm not complaining or anything (well I am but who would listen!!); it's just a fact. Soccer is the sport I love and I'm sure anyone who loves some sport will know how it feels to be 100 percent committed physically and mentally to a sport. I sleep, eat, and breath the sport. For me its all or nothing and quite frankly I couldn't ask for anything else.

My latest commitment is Greenfield High girls soccer. I stand and raise a glass while writing this to show of my appreciation to all stakeholders in the Greenfield Athletics program. Fantastic facilities, fantastic people to work with and for, and last, but certainly not least, a fantastic team.

Now this season hasn't quite gone to anyone's plan, at least not my plans. Results haven't been good, injuries have been plentiful, and let's not leave out ineligibility problems!! However, this bunch of girls is resilient, hard working, and young in experience that can only get better. For some, this experience is brand new and have never had a "coach" in the game. For some, this is an eye-opener to how a program should or may well should be run, and for others this is something completely different from their experience, whether it be club or just from previous coaches at the school.

The record this season is sitting at a poor 1-9-2 and a lot of these results are by no means a representation of the performances that have been put in. From the sidelines, I see a lot of improvement from day to day and with a little more effort could certainly improve that much more. I am optimistic with these girls and know that more can come from them. It's almost a case of that famous saying from the movie Coach Carter that starts "our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate."

This week the Greenfield Hustlin' Hawks girls soccer team played Cudahy/St. Francis and lost, 3-1. The next games for the team come Thursday and Friday this week against Wauwatosa West and West Allis respectively. Come support the Hawks this week and encourage them to do their best!!
