Greenfield Girl's Soccer Week Update

A weekly recap of the soccer action for Greenfield girl's soccer.

To all followers, dedicated and arm chair, I'm sorry this past week wasn't a week for excitement for Greenfield girl's soccer. After a pair of games Greenfield sits 0-2.

Madison La Follette provided the first challenge of the season and boy was it a wake up call. Starting a very young and inexperienced team we put up a brave fight and created a lot of goal scoring chances but couldn't prevail and ended up losing 3-0. Madison scored off a debatable long range free-kick, which caught first year goalkeeper Tania Alverez off guard, in side the first 15 minutes. This goal came a a huge blow as we had dominated and created more chances but just couldn't finish. For Madison's second goal they took advantage of players being out of position and in transition played some quick soccer to get the ball through to their striker who finished well underneath Tania Alverez. The rest of the half showed a lot of good inter play and more signs of inexperience as chance after chance went by. The second half started brightly as Madison we kept under pressure for long periods of the half as we dominated in every department. Towards the end of the game we started taking chances and then the game got stretched out and the game became so fast i don think all of us could keep up. Eventually Madison would steel a ball right down the middle with us going forward and take the ball down the other end hit a acute shot which Alverez tipped into her own net. Just as Alverez's confidence was growing after making a number of vital saves!

Even with the loss we knew that we had the makings of a good team and with some more hard work we would be able to crack down our opponents. With this in mind, Oak Creek came to town and brought a fairly big following with them.

With a lot of the girls knowing each other from club soccer this game was going to be a grudge match for some. With a long story cut short Greenfield came out on the harsh end of a 6-0 beating that the score didn't summarize how good we are as a team. I personally didn't feel that Oak Creek by any means are a six-goal-better team than us; they took advantage where we were weaker and they made us pay.

This next week we come up against New Berlin West (Tuesday at West) and Shorewood (Friday at Greenfield) both 4:30 kickoffs. West has a record of 1-1-1 with there win coming against West Allis, and Shorewood has yet to play a game on record and have their first game tomorrow night!

This week we have every chance of being a .500 team and I will be pushing the team to do just that!

Hope to see you by the pitch
