It's hard to believe only a year has passed since the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center purchased its new, permanent home...so much has been accomplished during that time!
The Center closed on the new property December 23, 2011 and the early part of 2012 was spent getting the interior ready for business. Staff and volunteers worked tirelessly cleaning, painting, unpacking, and organizing. A few minor updates were done; carpeting and wallpaper was removed, new lighting fixtures installed, and glass walls were installed to partition off the two cat galleries.
As the warmer weather approached, work on the exterior began. Flowers were planted, and the memorial/meditation garden begun to take shape. The pillars at the front entrance were replaced, and the signage on Loomis Road and parking lot entrance were installed.
During this time, the staff was also planning for their largest annual fundraiser, the Spayghetti and No Balls Bash. The new Center officially opened for business April 28th, 2012. Even with so much happening in the early part of the year, the Center adopted 81 animals into permanent, loving homes in 2012!
The Center has big plans for 2013, including expanding open hours, and increasing adoptions and community outreach programs. The staff and volunteers are excited to see what the new year brings!
