District's Teacher Academy set to Launch this Summer

In an effort to continue the education process of its teachers and administrators, the will launch its own professional learning program this summer.

The Teacher Academy, which took more than two-years to put together and will take place June 11-15, is the first of its kind offered by the district, according to Director of Educational Services Todd Bugnacki.

“It’s one of the accomplishments I’m most proud about while being in this position for the last five years,” Bugnacki said.

Teachers will have their choice of week-long, multiple-day and single-day courses worth one to three credits. Topics range from a course called iPad for U to another entitled Effective High School Grading Practices.

In all, the district anticipates offering 23 different courses, all held at and the district's adminstration building and several of which will be led by national presenters.

“We’re very excited to have these individuals as part of our academy,” Bugnacki said.

Participants in the courses will earn credits at Viterbo University, Cardinal Stritch University or Wisconsin Lutheran College, and the courses will be open to employees of other districts. The program is being funded by the district and federal grant money. Any funds generated by out-of-district employees will be used to offset the cost of the program, according to Bugnacki.

“All the work that has gone into this has been monumental,” Superintendent Conrad Farner said. “We’re getting out in front of other districts by having this ready. … We’re looking forward to a high level of participation.”

Bugnacki estimated 100 district teachers will participate and said teachers are responsible for covering the cost for the credits.
