District Selects Melissa Yow for Maple Grove Principal Opening

Yow has 11 years of teaching experience across all elementary grade levels in both Texas and Waukesha.

Greenfield School District administrators introduced Melissa Yow as the new principal at .

Yow has 11 years of teaching experience across all elementary grade levels in both Texas and Waukesha. Her most recent positions have included working as a reading specialist, instructional resource teacher and the summer school principal for the Waukesha School District.

“We’re very excited about her joining our team,” Superintendent Conrad Farner said Monday when the School Board approved Yow’s two-year contract.

According to Board packet notes, Yow has extensive experience and training working with special education students and students with diverse backgrounds, and she has spear-headed several initiatives already in place in Greenfield such as Response to Intervention, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, among others.

The packet notes also indicated Yow was being recruited for principal positions in two other districts.

The position was posted on April 5, and the district received more than 70 applications, according to Farner. Yow was one of three finalists who went through several different interview scenarios.

Yow replaces Michelle Weisrock, who is moving to a curriculum coordinator administrative position, a vacancy created when Megan Dixon, the district’s literacy coordinator, moved back into the classroom to teach second grade at .

The administration will bring forward a principal candidate for to the School Board at the June 25 meeting, according to Farner. That vacancy was created by .

Both Weisrock and Toetz were principals at their respective schools for just one year.

That schools morale is low!!! I mean REALLY low!! Parents moving out of the district because of our superintendent and our principal! This year the rate of bullying almost doubled in our school! Kids thrown up against walls and held down and spit on and all this with a "new" behavior system. Children not getting lunch on a consistent basis because of new lunch system put in place. We have half of our teachers leaving or retiring or being transferred because of administrative decisions!! I really hope Melissa is able to raise morale amongst our kids and our parents. Like John said I hope she doesn't cross Conrad! My only hope is that we only have one more year of Contad! Parents PLEASE speak up!!!!!

Did I mention that when we moved into Greenfield 10 years ago our district was rated in the top 10 schools in our area. Coincidence?? Parents PLEASE speak up!!!!!

Just a couple of questions...John Seymour, you say 10 administrators have left in the past two years. Could you please elaborate and describe what they did and where they left from? I don't need names...just some concrete examples of what you're talking about. For A Concerned Parent, can you elaborate on why you feel that school's morale is low (specifically which school...or do you think all GF schools's morale is low and how do you quantify that?). I'm pretty new to all of this controversy (I have two children in GF schools...one in the High School and one in grade school and have no real complaints) and I'm trying to gather the FACTS before forming any opinions.

Well, three retired a year early and took a hit on their pension to do so. One left to become a Sup in another district, one left the high school, and one left to pursue another field. Two more left for "unknown" reasons. All the people who left did not leave to receive more pay...that much I know. Another one left because he hated working for Conrad. The people who left were from the middle, high school, and elementary level. It was all across the board. Now another one leave after one year on the job? GF parent...your children's teachers are going to be doing a good job, but the future of the district is in trouble if the current system stays in place.

And now at least 4 more left the district this year...wake up people. There is a problem.
