Edgewood's Positive Behavior Recognized Again

For the second straight year, the Greenfield School District elementary school has been recognized for its work with PBIS.

In the world of PBIS – or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports – Edgewood Elementary is moving on up.

One year after being profiled by Greenfield Patch as a school of merit for its work with PBIS, Edgewood was named a school of distinction earlier this summer by the Wisconsin Response to Intervention (RtI).

The recognition goes to schools for their efforts in creating environments that allow for academic and behavioral achievements for all students.

“Our internal coaches, Sarah Jegier and Jackie Michlig, are the driving force behind this implementation,” Edgewood principal Sue Sterner said in an email to Patch. “As a team, we work very well together, along with the entire staff, to make the implementation successful.”

The Schools of Distinction and Merit programs separately recognize schools that have made achievements in enacting RtI frameworks for academics and for behavior, using PBIS. All Wisconsin schools are eligible to apply for any of the awards; Edgewood was one of 88 to receive the school of distinction honor for behavior.

Wisconsin PBIS Network schools of distinction must meet all of the following criteria, and more:

  • achieve a high score (70 percent or higher) on the Benchmarks of Quality for two years; schools must have scored at least 80 percent in the current year and at least 70 percent last year;
  • have disaggregated data and problem solved using subgroup data;
  • have actively engaged families in PBIS implementation;
  • have actively implemented PBIS in classrooms.

The Wisconsin RtI Center, a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction funded initiative, is dedicated to ensuring that all students have equal access to supports that will ensure their long-term academic and behavioral success.
