Election 2011: Donald Almquist, Greenfield School Board

Almquist seeks another term

Greenfield School Board member Donald Almquist, 7029 W. Chapman Ave. said he has the district’s finances on his mind as he seeks another term serving on the board.

Almquist has lived in Greenfield since 1973, and is 30-year veteran of the board. His two youngest sons and his grandchildren have attended Greenfield schools.

If reelected, one of his top priorities would be “making sure we have a tight budget,” he said.

He added in the current climate, however, it’s difficult to know what will happen and how it will be handled.

“I don’t know where we’re going to head, but we have to address the problems,” Almquist said. “I think the legislature in Madison doesn’t understand the full provision of the laws they’ve passed.

“We’re in a really difficult position. We’ve reduced many, many positions. A lot of employees are handling two positions.”

Almquist said the children of the community are his main priority, and that he would use his experience to try to help find a better situation.

“We’ve got to come to a realization that we’re being hit by the state extremely hard," he said. "Now how are we going to handle the situation?”
