Election 2011: Jon Jones, Whitnall School Board

Jones seeks one of three available spots on the board.

Jon D. Jones, 6433 S. 112nd St., Franklin, is running for a seat on the Whitnall School Board because he is not not satisfied with the way the board has been approaching the problems that they’ve faced.

Jones, an 11-year resident of Franklin with one child in the district, said he would bring common sense approach to the issues and that the district's most pressing issue is its financial picture.

“The work is never done, really,” he said. “Really, they’ve had to cut seven figures out of the budget for each of the past two years and who knows what they’re going to have to do this year because the numbers aren’t out of Madison yet.

"But you have to keep the priorities in line whenever you do these things. First and foremost is to keep the kids in mind.”

Jones said he would work to apply “reasonable thought processes to come up with solutions,” but noted that “without that finalized piece of legislation in Madison, we don’t really know what we’ll be dealing with.”

However, "you’ve got to keep the children in mind today and realize that the health of the district is what the children of tomorrow rely on,” he added.

“I think with my leadership experience and my problem solving abilities, I think I could help guide the district in the right direction to ultimately service the kids properly,” Jones said.
