Milwaukee County Mental Health Crisis: Impact on Milwaukee and You

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about half of U.S. adults will develop a mental illness during their lifetime. In fact, mental health disorders are the leading cause of disability in the U.S. today.  By 2020, mental and substance use disorders will surpass all physical diseases worldwide as major causes of disability.  Moreover, less than optimal treatment can greatly impact families, schools, and the community at large.  Can we afford to wait to address this issue which is rapidly becoming a public health crisis?  Doesn’t it deserve serious attention in our community? This Forum will address the mental health crisis by describing the current state of support for people with mental illness in Milwaukee County and discussing challenges to effectively help individuals, families, and our community.
