Farner was not surprised by Menomonee Falls' decision.

"She is an excellent superintendent with a fantastic background in curriculum and instruction, professional development and school improvement," Farner said. "She also understands the nuances and implications of our state’s broken school funding formula.

"I have admired her knowledge and skills for many years, and take pride in the fact that we share many common viewpoints, experiences and practices. At the same time, we have our own styles and there is no doubt Pat will be a great for Menomonee Falls. They are getting a tremendous administrator."

Farner said the interview process was a learning experience. He was able to get a sense of how the Menomonee Falls School District, its administrators and its school board operates and said, "you never when you may pick up something you can use in your district."

As for the Greenfield School District, Farner said it remains business as usual.

"My application for an excellent opportunity in another highly regarded district has no bearing on what is happening in Greenfield," he said. "We will do what we always do in this district. We continually strive to improve. ... Leading this district to the best of my ability is what I have been doing and will continue to do."
