Greenfield Teachers Receive Wage Increases for 2011-12 School Year

The teachers received an $800 increase that they'll see on their final paycheck of the school year later this month.

Greenfield teachers will see more money on their last paycheck before summer, after the School Board unanimously approved a wage increase for the 2011-12 school year.

Teachers received an $800 increase, slightly above the Wisconsin Employment Relations Committee consumer price index of 1.64 percent as determined by the state's Department of Revenue.

“It’s been an extremely unusual year,” Superintendent Conrad Farner said. “We’ve been waiting patiently to try to figure out what we could do in terms of compensation goes for our professional educators in our district.”

The School Board also approved a $2,000 stipend for teachers who obtained their master’s degree this school year.

Board member Don Carlson said he would have preferred the administration go with a raise of 1.64 percent, but voted for the 1.73 percent increase after considering the contributions teachers are making toward their pensions and health insurance.

“I have some concerns looking toward the budget for the 2012-13 budget and also looking at the taxpayers who are experiencing layoffs, cuts in their hours, no raises,” Carlson said. “We have to remind everybody that we have to look at the ability of the taxpayers to pay for all the different things we’re doing in the district.”

In addition, the Board unanimously approved a 1.52 percent increase for management team members, including administrators, for the 2011-12 school year.
