"We want to provide a much more flexible intervention period during the school day," Thusius said. "Currently the high school schedule and the way we earn credits in the high school makes it a very rigid situation."

The extra flexible time will be used as time for students to seek academic help if they are struggling, Thusius said. Students who are doing well is the classroom can use this time for enrichment and to get ahead in their work.

The start and end times during the school day will not change, according to Thusius. The board did not take action on the changes, which are still being developed by school officials.

In addition, board members unanimously approved the district participating in a cooperative for a WIAA boys and girls hockey team with Greendale, Franklin, Oak Creek, Waterford, St. Thomas More, St. Francis and Union Grove High School for the 2012-13 school year.

The board also approved an administrative resignation and individual educator contract for Megan Dixon, who was the district's literacy coordinator.

"She has done a fantastic job as the literacy coordinator," said District Administrator Conrad Farner, who indicated Dixon will return to the classroom as a teacher.
