Little League Lease Expected to be Renewed by School District

Concerns were raised earlier this month about schedule conflicts.

The Greenfield Little League and the Greenfield School District appear to be on the same team once again.

The Greenfield School Board unanimously agreed to renew Little League’s lease with the district, on Superintendent Conrad Farner’s recommendation, allowing the organization to use the baseball field at Glenwood Middle School as well as Chapman Fields. In exchange, Little League will pay a fee of $1 and all costs to maintain the fields.

“They get (to use) our fields for the maintenance of the fields,” Farner said.

The decision to renew the lease was made at Monday’s School Board Meeting and is expected to be approved at the next scheduled meeting Monday, March 7.

The lease will be for one, two or three years, and contingent on Little League providing proof of insurance. Little League’s current lease expires March 31.

“Certainly, if they’re going to maintain those fields to the level they have been maintaining them … I would see no reason to not extend their lease,” board treasurer David Richlen said. “It doesn’t make sense to me not to allow them to use the field and for the district to take over the maintenance.”

Earlier this month, Little League president Aaron Esenberg to the board regarding the districts plans to use the fields for adult softball leagues, but Monday, he said the district and Little League had worked out all scheduling issues.
