Maple Grove Staff, Students Shining Light on Autism

The student council is selling "Light It Up Blue" bracelets as a fundraiser during Autism Awareness Month.

The staff and students at Maple Grove Elementary School is helping raise awareness about Autism by selling "Light It Up Blue" bracelets through April 12.

The bracelets, sold by school's student council, are $3. Maple Grove students were given letters with order forms attached and are asked to return them to their teacher by the deadline.

Patch readers can mail in an order to ATTN: Jen Paulus, Maple Grove Elementary School, 6921 W. Cold Spring Rd., Greenfield, WI 53220. Those who order by mail are asked to indicate their name, address and quantity requested and include a check for $3.50 per bracelet to cover the cost of shipping.

Patch readers can also email Paulus at jpaulus@greenfield.k12.wi.us before April 12, with their name, address and quantity requested. They can then stop in at Maple Grove with their payment to pick up the bracelet during the week of April 22-26 between the hours of 8:05-9 a.m. There will be a table set up in the front foyer; the cost of the bracelet for in-person pick-up is $3 each.

All proceeds will be donated to the Autism Speaks foundation.

In addition, several Maple Grove staff members will put blue light bulbs in their porch lights for the month of April. Blue bulbs can be purchased an any area Menard's or Home Depot store.

Each April 2, Autism Speaks celebrates Light It Up Blue along with the international autism community, in commemoration of the United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day.

Light It Up Blue is a unique global initiative that kicks off Autism Awareness Month and helps raise awareness about autism. Many iconic landmarks, hotels, sporting venues, concert halls, museums, bridges and retail stores are among the hundreds of thousands of homes and communities that take part to Light It Up Blue.
