Mario Nathan Gonzalez was Talented Vocalist on Local Music Scene

The 18-year-old was a singer for Blueskyportrait and a former Greenfield High School student. He reportedly committed suicide Thursday.

Services for Mario Nathan Gonzalez, the singer of a local band and a former Greenfield High School student, will be Tuesday morning.

The 18-year-old reportedly committed suicide Thursday.

Gonzalez was a vocalist for Blueskyportrait, a five-member hardcore band. He went by the stage name Nathan Spades.

Fans, friends and family members flooded the band’s Facebook page with condolences, images and YouTube videos. They did the same on the Remembering Mario Nathan Gonzalez page set up on Facebook on Friday.

Greenfield High School principal Paul Thusius said Gonzalez had been enrolled at the high school for three years, including during the 2011-12 school year when he was a junior.

Thusius said he did not know Gonzalez well but knew of his musical talents.

“He was a good musician,” Thusius said. “It was definitely his connection to school, singing and being involved in a band. He was the lead singer of a band that had a few other members from our school. That was his big focus, and he was very close to those kids in the band and the kids that went to go see the band.”

Thusius said school counselors were available both Friday and Monday.

“There are a lot of students here that were pretty close to him,” Thusius said. “It’s been difficult. … We’re trying to provide tons of supports to our kids.”

Visitation for Gonzalez was held Monday evening. Burial services will be held at 11 a.m. at Forest Home Cemetery, 2405 W. Forest Home Ave., Milwaukee.

Nate was a sweet, wonderful young man. He touched many lives and will never be forgotten.

Last Friday when my son came home from school he described the last time he saw Nate and then told me he died of an apparent suicide. Tears welled up in my eyes and I got a lump in my throat. I felt such saddness for all whose life he touched. My son said he was a likeable person who loved being in his band. Rest In Peace Nate! I hope all who loved him find comfort in each other.

Steve, go down to the "village square" burn a blue fist. Or, maybe in front of WAL-MART.
