Rick Moze, Robert Hansen Sworn in as School Board Members

Well, they were actually sworn in a week earlier, but were given the chance to take their oaths of office publicly at a Board meeting Monday.

Rick Moze encouraged community members to get more involved, and Robert Hansen thanked teachers and educators for being selfless and called them true heroes

Moze and Hansen, both of whom ran unopposed in the spring election, were sworn in as the newest Greenfield School Board members at the Board’s meeting Monday.

“We have so much to be proud of, but the work isn’t over,” Moze said in front of an audience of a few dozen people. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on the board and superintendent (Lisa) Elliott.”

Moze, who has been a Board member for nearly four years, hoped others would take his lead and attend more school-based functions like concerts, football games and performances at the Performing Arts Center.

“There’s such a great group of parents, I wish everyone would take the time, get involved and see what’s going on in our schools,” he said.

Hansen said the district should hire more guidance staff, be mindful of wasteful spending and look to the future with expanded technological opportunities.

“We need to be aggressive and forward thinking with are implementation of technology in the classroom,” he said.

Before Moze and Hansen were sworn in, Don Carlson was recognized for his three years on the Board. He chose not to run for re-election this spring.

Carlson, a former alderperson, said his two primary goals while on the Board were to provide quality, relevant educational opportunities to students and be a conscientious steward of the taxpayers’ dollars. He said his biggest highlight was handing out diplomas at the high school’s graduation.

“It’s been a very rewarding and challenging time for me, and I look forward to remaining active in the community and the city for many years to come,”

Board president Bruce Bailey said Carlson has worked hard to make Greenfield a better place.
