Some Issues Remain After Whitnall Calendar Approval

Some parents who drop their high school students off in the morning will have issues doing so on late start days, which are the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.

A little more than a month after the approved its 2012-13 calendar, some loose ends still have to be tied.

At Monday's School Board meeting, board member Quin Brunette raised the concern that some parents who drop their high school students off in the morning will have issues doing so on late start days, which are the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.

On those days, the high school starts at 8:45 a.m., instead of the normal 7:45 a.m.

According to a story on Greenfield NOW, Brunette said several working parents told him getting their son or daughter to school on those days would be problematic.

The Board and administration is considering two options, according to the story: having students walk to a spot on a normal bus route so they can get a ride to school, or allowing students to come to school at 7:45 a.m. and have supervised study sessions in the cafeteria.

On May 7, the Board put an end toΒ  and hours of conversations by passing an amendment that aligned all the on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, with the following impact on each grade level.

  • Elementary: early release Wednesdays with school hours of 8:35 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. on those days.
  • : early release Wednesdays with school hours of 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on those days.
  • : late start Wednesdays with school hours of 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on those days.
