Three Football Players Have College Plans

Whitnall's Sam Mentkowski and Patrick Wyrowski and Greenfield's Nathan Getzin look to extend their playing careers at the next level.

Three local football players β€” two from Whitnall and one from Greenfield β€” plan to play at the college level next fall.

Whitnall's Sam Mentkowski, one of the top wide receivers in the state in terms of production, plans to play for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, a program that played in the NCAA Division III semifinals in December.

Mentkowski hauled in 72 passes for 1,008 yards and 12 touchdowns in nine games for the Falcons.

Nathan Getzin, a mammoth interior offensive lineman for the Hustlin' Hawks, will play at Trinity International University in Illinois.

The 6-4, 317-pound Greenfield senior was a first-team all-woodland Conference offensive guard and center for the Hawks last fall after playing tight end in 2011, when he was an all conference honorable mention at that position.

Patrick Wyrowski, one of Mentkowski's fellow Falcon receivers, came out of nowhere to catch 43 passes for 510 yards and seven touchdowns. He plans to play for UW-Eau Claire.
