“Although we probably want to hurry to get someone in here, we also need a chance for people to be notified that there is an opening,” Walsh said.

Once applications are collected, the Board is expected to interview candidates and then vote in a candidate with a majority vote of 4-2 or better. That candidate would serve out Richlen’s remaining term, and the seat would be up for election next spring.

The Board has to determine what tiebreaker policies should be in place should a vote finish 3-3.

The Board could also agree to leave the seat vacant if no strong candidate emerges.

No timetable was set beyond the July 16 deadline.
