What's Next for the Greenfield School District?

Last week was an eventful one for the district.

On Monday, the Greenfield School Board will discuss promoting assistant superintendent Todd Bugnacki to interim superintendent one week before it comes up with a plan to permanently fill the hole created by Conrad Farner's departure.

But before looking ahead, here's a look back:

  • Conrad Farner resigns as Greenfield's superintendent.
  • Farner's statement regarding his resignation.
  • ?
  • Greenfield teachers file a lawsuit against the district.

This includes avoiding anyone with who has worked, at anytime, in the district as part of this Central Office administration but has left to other districts!

Advertise throughout the state. Have the Wisconsin Association of School Boards assist in recruiting. WASB has a special service for assisting its member boards in finding top notch administrators. Private consulting firms are way too expensive and are a ripoff of the taxpayers. Do not use political incest by promoting form within, not even on a temporary basis.

I think I agree with Robert H. You don't need an expensive search firm. There are plenty of candidates available right around here.

Most of my (close) colleagues don't waste their time on these blogs, but I do want to say that - as a teacher in the district, I am tired of people representing their own views - to which they are certainly entitled - as speaking for EVERYone in the district. This is simply NOT the case. I know that people have their own agendas, reasons, histories, etc, and there seems to be a handful of people who are very eager to push those things onto the rest of us. This is FINE, but now I'm starting to be roped in with "EVERYONE", which isn't an accurate representation. I would be all right with Todd Bugnacki taking over. I have talked to several others who are hoping that he DOES take over. I'm not saying that people don't have have legitimate reasons for their own individual concerns along that vein, but please stop insinuating that you are speaking for all of Greenfield. That simply isn't reality.

Agree MJS.

Gee, I was wondering how 30% of teacher voted for Walker. Another minority of teachers voted to decertify GEA
John Seymour January 15, 2013 at 01:31 AM
Obviously you've never had him lose things, cancel meetings, not show up etc. on you. There are other skeletons that I won't bring up...but everyone who has been in GSD for a while knows them.
KHD January 15, 2013 at 03:29 AM
MJS, Well don't bother to post if you think it is a waste of time. Go teach somewhere else then too. Bugnacki isn't even qualified. He was a Conrad backer and should go too.
mjs January 15, 2013 at 12:43 PM
There is no need for unprofessionalism on this post; I was merely stating that I have had only positive/productive interactions when Mr. Bugnacki has met with our team. The theme has always focused on what is best for our students. There are other colleagues who feel the same. Mr. Heule, please don't stray from the topic: I did not vote for Walker, and I did not vote to decertify GEA. I will say that I strongly believe in WEAC. (I would add that GEA has some toxicity to it that will be better off in a few years when some of the old-school mentality shifts to a more kid-oriented focus. Some teachers were afraid to vote against it for fear of retribution from the union.) Again, only one small opinion - which I'm entitled to and would never force onto anyone else - so please...no need to bash me. KHD, don't be mean - I don't know if Bugnacki was a "Conrad - backer". It seems to me like a second-in-charge wouldn't have much choice? I would never dream of teaching anywhere else if I could help it...I love my colleagues, our focus on improvements, and my students & their families in GSD. I'm sorry you took offense to my posting my opinions. :(

MJS - Most of my (close) colleagues don't waste their time on these blogs. You are saying we are wasting our time? I take offense to that statement. It really is a good place to hear Ideas and also criticisms that people have. Who said they are speaking for all of Greenfield? It is you that is insinuating.
robert heule January 15, 2013 at 09:05 PM
MJS, Its time to get a complete new start. If Bugnacki wants to stay, I'm sure the Board can find another job for him in the district. The top of the administration needs a "new day" Let's go on a statewide or even a mid west search.
