Holiday Spirit Spread Throughout Downtown Milwaukee

With the holidays quickly approaching, downtown Milwaukee is now glowing with lights and full of Christmas spirit.

People of all ages came together in downtown Milwaukee to start the holiday season off this past Thursday by participating in the annual tree lighting celebration.

Not only was the tree was lit, but thousands of lights were used to illuminate parks, streets, buildings, trees, and just about anywhere else in the area.

This time of year is a favorite for many.

“I like the holiday decorations and Christmas spirit; it really beings out the best in everyone and the good in humanity,” Whitnall senior Rachel Stave said.

After the tree-lighting ceremony and fireworks, the families were able to take a ride on the Jingle Bus. This is a 40-minute cozy bus ride that shows off nearly all of the heart-warming scenes around town, for a mere one dollar charge. This bus runs from 6-9 p.m. Thursday – Sunday, through Dec. 30.

Whitnall senior Leah Windt has had the opportunity to ride on the Jingle Bus several times.

“It is one of my favorite traditions and it’s a great way to get in the Christmas spirit!,” she said.

But the Christmas lights are not the only attraction that draws people to downtown Milwaukee over the holidays. Located on Water Street, Red Arrow Park is one of the most popular ice-skating rinks in Milwaukee.

“I love Red Arrow Park because I think it is a cute place to go on a date,” Whitnall student Madison Choppa shared.

On the other hand, Alexandra Devine, also a Whitnall student, says she “likes to skate around alone to experience the atmosphere of the park, and watch others enjoy their night.”

Either way, this is a perfect place for everyone! Although the rink is modest in size, it fits nearly 100 people at a time, and accommodates skaters of all abilities. If you bring your own skates, it is free of charge. This year, the rink opens on Dec.

Overall, downtown Milwaukee provides the perfect atmosphere throughout the holiday season.
