Homecoming Showcases Falcon Pride at Whitnall High School.

Whitnall high school students are celebrating their homecoming this week.

Whitnall students are flooding the high school halls with spirit for their annual homecoming celebration this week.

Every year the school hosts a competition among the grades to see which has the most spirit. They do this by having the entire week leading up to homecoming as a competition, where each day has a certain theme, and every student that dresses according to the theme gets a point for their grade.

The grade with the most points at the end of the week is pronounced the winners.

Senior Daniel Bigalke said, “I’m going to go all out and dress up every single day this year to help the seniors win spirit week!”

Besides dressing up, the students have other ways of showing their school spirit. For example, students will be participating in the lunchtime games, where students compete against each other in different activities like sack races or a pie-eating contest.

Another entertaining activity going on is the senior vs. junior Powder-Puff Football Game, where the senior and junior girls will compete in a flag football game, the winners get bragging rights over the other girls for the rest of the year.

Freshman Mikey Voelkel enjoyed the pep rally.

"It was a thrilling experience, because it was fun to see everyone competing for their class,” she said.

Overall the most popular activity is the pep rally, and nearly all the students from each grade swarm the gymnasium to find out who won homecoming king and queen. However, students go mainly to battle against one another in many different competitions like a human pyramid race, relay races, and a tug-o-war.

Senior Trenton Coleman said, “I’m jacked for the pep rally! I’m finally a senior and it’s our turn to win!”

Then Friday rolls around, and the theme is Whitnall Pride, all the students wear their blue and gold and you can really see how united Whitnall is. With the end of the day comes the homecoming parade where athletes and homecoming court make their way down 116th Street from Hales Corners Elementary to the high school.

But, the fun doesn’t end there. Once night rolls around, the entire community is welcome to attend the homecoming football game in hopes of watching the Falcons pummel the Cudahy Packers.

Finally on Saturday, the homecoming dance will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the gymnasium. This year it’s going to be packed because this year Whitnall sold over 450 tickets!

Monday comes quick, though, and students will need to get back into the swing of things after one of the most exciting weeks of the year. So far it has been a very exciting and eventful week. Go Falcons!
