Falcons Keep Rolling; Hawks Finally Victorious

Both of the city's high school varsity football teams picked up wins in the game that marked the halfway point of the regular season.

Building on the excitement of the opening of Falcon Field, the Whitnall football team steamrolled visiting St. Francis, 43-15, Friday.

And with half the season in the books, the Falcons (3-1) find themselves just one win away from qualifying for the WIAA postseason.

Against the Mariners, seniors Zach Sutton and Luke Mentkowski, the 1-2 punch that helped open Falcon Field with a bang, struck again.

Sutton, the quarterback, 8 of 13 passes for 226 yards and four touchdowns. He added 82 rushing yards and a ground score.

Mentkowski hauled in 114 yards.

The Falcons also had their first 100-yard rushing performance of the season as Dan Lak needed just nine carries to tally 100 yards with a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Greenfield (1-3), desperately in need of a victory, got just that as five different players scored in a 48-0 win over visiting Cudahy on Friday.

Xavier Copeland led the way with two touchdowns, including an 85-yard jaunt, and 160 of the Hawks 413 yards.

The win was the Hustlin' Hawks' first, as the Packers remained winless.

Steve, go down to the "village square" burn a blue fist. Or, maybe in front of WAL-MART.
