Local schools in action in Division 2 regional quarterfinal games.

The Greenfield girls basketball team is hoping to follow the example set by the Whitnall boys last week.

On Friday, for the third time this season, the last of those victories coming in the WIAA postseason.

Tonight, the Hustlin’ Hawks girls will be vying for their third win in three tries over boarder rival Greendale in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal.

“In any sport at any level, playing and beating a team for a third time is always a difficult task,” Greenfield coach Rob Graetz said. “In the previous two match-ups throughout the season, the games were very physical and down to the closing minutes, and even seconds in the final match-up.”

The Hawks beat the Panthers, 33-32, at home Feb. 4, and 40-30, on the road Jan. 25.

Since beating Greendale in February, Greenfield has won just one of six games and is 8-14 overall. The Panthers have lost nine straight games and are just 3-19.

The winner takes on top-seeded Cudahy (15-7) at 7 p.m. Friday.

“Both teams will be well-prepared and ready to play tonight in order to move on to play Cudahy Friday night,” Graetz said. “I’m sure it will be a great atmosphere with neighboring districts playing to move on.”

The Falcons (11-10) also tip-off their postseason with a 7 p.m. game at Catholic Memorial (9-13) tonight.

said defending the 3-point arc will be a key because the Crusaders have made 123 3-pointers this season.

“We should match up with them as they do not have any noticeable size advantage, something that has hurt us at times this season,” Larson said. “The key will be to contain their shooters and execute on our side of the ball.”

The winner will play defending D2 state champion New Berlin Eisenhower at 7 p.m. Friday at Eisenhower.
