Greenfield Cross Country Team Showing Growth

Both the varsity girls and boys ran well in their season-opening race.

In five years, under the direction of coach Ernie Rosenthal, the has increased from 8-10 runners to 45 this fall.

Last Thursday, that strength in numbers began to pay off. In the season-opening Kettle Moraine Lutheran Invite in Jackson, the varsity boys were fifth of 14 teams with Andy and Casey Sabinash both placing in the top 14.

The varsity girls were 10th as Jamie Bernam and Jill Dworschack turned in top-20 times.

Of the 43 Greenfield athletes who ran, 26 of them improved their times from the same race last season, according to Rosenthal.

Up next for the Hawks is the West Allis Central Invite at McCarty Park at Friday, Sept. 3. The girls run at 4:45 p.m., the boys at 5:15 p.m.
