Greenfield Opens League Season With Rare Win Over Pewaukee

The Hustlin' Hawks had been outscored by the Pirates, 155-0, in the previous four meetings.

Thanks to a fourth-quarter safety, the pulled out a 9-7 victory over the host Pewaukee Pirates in the Woodland Conference opener for both teams Friday.

Greenfield's Trevor Holmes was credited for the sack with 4 minutes, 8 seconds remaining, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel online box score, while Living Lake Country reporter Chuck Delsman said four Greenfield defenders got to quarterback Broke Bateman for the winning play.

Hawks quarterback Tyler Laverdure rushed for a game-high 104 yards on 23 carries and had Greenfield's only touchdown, a 1-yard second-quarter plunge. He also three for 109 yards on 5-of-7 passing.

Greenfield had lost its previous four meetings against Pewaukee by a combined score of 155-0.

The Hawks (1-1 overall) will try to make it two straight when they visit Brown Deer (0-2, 0-1) at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2.
