High School Sports Preview: Whitnall, Greenfield Set for Intercity Battle

Falcons need win over Hawks to keep pace in conference race.

With a huge showdown with New Berlin Eisenhower on the horizon, the Whitnall boys basketball team must first get through intercity rival and host Greenfield at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

 (12-7 overall) have lost three of their last four Woodland Conference games since beating Eisenhower, 61-50, on Jan. 21. The losses dropped Whitnall into a second-place tie with South Milwaukee. Both squads are 10-4 in league play, one game behind first-place Eisenhower (11-3).

The Falcons and Lions play at Eisenhower at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Greenfield (4-15), meanwhile, is tied for last place in the division with Greendale at 3-11. The Hustlin’ Hawks have lost five of their last six games.

Whitnall beat Greenfield, 72-48, behind Stephen Pelkofer’s 26 points the last time the teams met back in December.

The Falcons (9-8 overall) host Waterford in a nonconference game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Whitnall had its three-game winning streak snapped Friday with a 47-37 loss at South Milwaukee.

Waterford is just 3-13 but snapped a six-game losing streak with a 50-30 win over Burlington on Friday.
