Hustlin' Hawks Leave Miller Park With a Victory

They improved to 13-6 with the victory.

The only thing better than playing a baseball game at Miller Park is playing there and winning.

The Greenfield baseball team just that with an 8-4 Woodland Conference victory over Wauwatosa West on Monday afternoon.

"It's a great experience for our players to play on a major league field," Greenfield coach Lee Kleszczynski said. "To stand in the batter's box, take their position in the field and hang out in the same dugout as their baseball heroes is something they will never forget. Those stories will stick with them for life.

"Also, our fans came out in full force. They were loud and you could feel the players gather strength from the cheers. The fans really added to the major league experience."

Greenfield (13-6 overall, 7-2 conference) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning with the most exciting play being Korben Biersack's steal of home that made it 3-0.

Greenfield was back at it in the second when Evan Greco led off with a triple and scored on Connor Lewandowski's ground out.

In the bottom of the second, Greenfield left fielder Tyler Laverdure made a tremendous catch on a drive hit by Josh Kundinger, a ball that likely would have cleared either school's high school fence.

Greenfield added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh.

Greco earned the win despite allowing three earned runs on seven hits and four walks in four innings. Tyler Braden pitched well in relief, throwing three hitless innings for the save.
