Josh Serio, Whitnall Falcons Cruise in WIAA Regional Baseball Semifinal

The Falcons will face the Greendale Panthers on Friday after the Panthers ended the Greenfield Hustlin' Hawks' season, 6-5, in a regional semifinal Tuesday.

Josh Serio turned in a near-perfect performance while leading the Whitnall Falcons baseball team to a WIAA regional semifinal victory Tuesday.

Serio struck out 14 batters, walked just one and allowed only one hit – a triple by Jason Alvarez – in the Falcons’ 5-0 win over West Allis Central (4-24) at , according to wissports.net.

Alvarez's hit came with two outs and two strikes in the seventh inning, according to Whitnall Athletic Director Rick Elertson.

Whitnall’s Sam Mentkowski had four of his team’s nine hits and drove in two.

The win advanced fifth-seeded Whitnall (15-10) to the regional final where the Falcons will visit fourth-seeded Greendale Panthers at 5 p.m. Friday, July 13. The Falcons and Panthers split two regular season games in early June.

Panthers end Hawks' season

The Panthers (16-14) on Tuesday.

The Hawks, who lost twice to the Panthers by an average of 7.5 runs during the regular season, finished 5-23 overall.

Greenfield rallied with two runs in the top of the seventh, but came up just short.

The Hawks’ Travis Hyatt knocked in a pair of runs on two hits.
