NFL Punter From Greenfield Agrees to Terms With New Team

Matt Turk is expected to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday.

graduate Matt Turk will play for his sixth different professional team next season, according to the Florida Times Union.

According to the story posted on Jacksonville.com, the Greenfield native who turned 43 years old in June, agreed to terms with the Jacksonville Jaguars for a one-year deal worth $2 million, $600,000 of which will be guaranteed. He is expected to sign the deal Friday evening.

Turk spent the last four seasons with the Houston Texans. His career began in 1995 and has included stops with the Miami Dolphins (twice), the Washington Redskins, the St. Louis Rams and the New York Jets.

Turk, who attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, is a two-time Pro Bowler who ranks 11th all-time in career punting yards.

The move was necessary for the Jaguars, whose former punter Adam Podlesh, agreed to a five-year, $10 million deal with the Chicago Bears Thursday. Podlesh finished tied for fourth in the league in net punting average; Turk was 21st, according to Rotoworld.com.

The New York Post reported that the New York Giants were also interested in Turk as a challenger to incumbent Matt Dodge.

Turk is the oldest active player in the NFL and said in a recent interview with Houston's CBS affiliate, Turk said he's "probably as strong as I've ever been" and that he could play until he is 50 years old.

According to Databasefootball.com, Turk is one of only two NFL players, current or present, to be born in Greenfield. Jon Dekker, a tight end who attended St. Thomas More High School, played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007.

Turk's older brother, Dan, spent 15 years in the NFL as a long snapper, but he was born in Milwaukee and attended James Madison High School.

Turk was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Green Bay Packers in 1993 but was cut a few weeks into training camp.
