Pitching Carries Falcons to WIAA Regional Baseball Final

Sam Mentkowski and Josh Serio combined for a six-hit, 6-0 shutout of Cudahy in a WIAA regional semifinal at Whitnall on Monday.

Two Whitnall Falcons combined for seven shutout innings as the home team won its first round playoff game, 6-0, over visiting Cudahy on Monday.

Sam Mentkowski struck out three in five innings and Josh Serio struck out four in two to lead the Falcons to the regional final Friday where they will play Muskego at 5 p.m.

Serio also knocked in a pair of runs, as did Danny Weymier for the Falcons, who pounded out seven hits but didn’t score until a four-run fifth inning.

The Woodland Conference East Division champions improved to 15-8 overall.

The Falcons crosstown rival, the Greenfield Hustlin’ Hawks, will play tomorrow at 5 p.m. at New Berlin Eisenhower after the teams’ Monday game was postponed because of rain.
