Senior Pitcher Peter Eidsmoe Terrific in Greenfield's Win Over Whitnall

The loss severely hurt Whitnall's chances to win the Woodland Conference Black Division championship.

The Greenfield baseball team hasn't had a lot of highlights this season, but senior Peter Eidsmoe made sure the Hustlin' Hawks would have at least memorable performance they could hang their hats on.

Eidsmoe picked a heck of a time to pick up his first victory of the season by pitching a complete game in a 4-1 win over crosstown rival Whitnall on Monday at .

He struck out eight batters, walked only one and scattered six hits for the Hawks, who with the win hampered the Falcons' Woodland Conference title hopes.

"He had great command of his fastball, slider and occasional change-up," Greenfield coach Lee Kleszczynski said. "Of his first 19 pitches (Monday), 18 were strikes. Of his 90 total pitches, 69 were thrown for strikes."

Greenfield got on the board in the first inning when Nick Jablonski's single drove in Kyle Holmes for the first run of the game. The Hawks added another in the second on Richard Thomas' RBI double.

The Falcons trimmed the lead to 2-1 on Josh Serio's sacrifice fly, but that was as close as they'd get against Eidsmoe and the Hawks.

Greenfield improved to 5-19 overall and 4-11 in the Woodland Conference.

Whitnall, meanwhile, dipped to 12-9 overall and 9-6 in the conference, one and a half games behind both Wauwatosa West and New Berlin Eisenhower with just three league games remaining.

The Hawks and Falcons play again at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Whitnall.
