Whitnall Snaps Losing Streak With Win Over Shorewood

Falcons finish conference season fourth of six teams.

The Whitnall baseball team concluded the Woodland Conference portion of its schedule with a victory by beating Shorewood, 7-2, at home Thursday.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Falcons, who finished 10-7 in conference play, fourth in the Woodland Black Division behind New Berlin Eisenhower (16-1), Greenfield (11-6) and Greendale (11-6).

Whitnall's Josh Serio hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and the Falcons tacked on two more in the third on RBI hits by Geoff Wisialowski and Luke Mentkowski to slowly start to pull away.

Sam Mentkowski got the win on the mound by tossing five innings without allowing an earned run. Danny Weymier struck out four in the final two innings of relief.

Whitnall, 16-12 overall, concludes the regular season with a nonconference game Mukwonago at 5 p.m. Friday. Those same two teams will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Whitnall for a WIAA regional final.
