The opened the 2011 football season Friday with a 56-0 nonconference loss at Germantown on Friday.

The Falcons did put together a nice little drive late in the second quarter, until a deep pass by senior quarterback Luke Mentkowski was intercepted to end the half.

The Warhawks came out strong in the second half, as Richmond pounded in a 3-yard TD run after a fantastic kickoff return put Germantown at the 6-yard line. A little over two minutes later, Mongan struck again, this time throwing a 36-yard TD toss to Tuszynski.

Near the end of the fourth quarter, Logan Gruber added his name to the score book with a 21-yard rush, and defensive lineman Shane Callewaert snatched up a fumble and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown.

Germantown’s overpowering running game dominated. The game's top four rushers were Warhawks: Richmond, Gruber (9 carries, 57 yards, TD), Tyler Baran (3 carries, 33 yards) and Mongan (2 carries for 18 yards).

Travis Karweik led Whitnall with 11 carries for 16 yards.

Mentkowski had an OK debut as the starting quarterback, going 8-for-16 for 61 yards. His top target was Stephen Pelkofer, last year's breakout receiver, who led the team with six receptions for 57 yards.

The Falcons at Cudahy at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26.
