Whitnall's Josh Serio Earns All-State Baseball Honor

Josh Serio, a Whitnall senior, was named to the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association all-state team this summer.

As expected, the awards continue to roll in for Whitnall senior Josh Serio, the dominant right-handed pitching ace overwhelmed opponents with his 90-mph fastball.

After being named the Woodland Conference East Division player of the year, Serio has been named to the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association all-state second team.

The big flamethrower was 6-3 overall with a whopping 114 strikeouts in just 60 2/3 innings pitched.

"It was really great coaching Josh because his passion was for baseball," second-year Whitnall coach Ben Krey said. "If he carries that passion to the next level, he’ll do well.

"You don’t get too many kids like him coming through the program. We were lucky to have him."

First-team all-state pitching selections were Homestead's Colton Poellinger and state player of the year Austin Jones of Wauwatosa West.

Though Serio was one of only two players from the Woodland East to earn all-state honors - the other was South Milwaukee's Evan Marlowe, an honorable mention - the Woodland was well-represented overall with 11 total selections. Those included Jones, coach of the year Tom Farina from New Berlin West and assistant coach of the year Jack Ward from Wauwatosa West.
